Good design is simple, yet complicated. At Igloo Design, we break down the planning process, step by step as listed below. Clients appreciate our rigorous and professional approach, which clarifies the scope and progress of each project.

During this analytical stage, we listen to the client's needs and objectives, survey the site, review building-code requirements and, where applicable, research the client's competition and market. On site, we examine the building and consider current and future space and business requirements, as well as the local cultural and environmental context. We survey existing assets that can be reinterpreted, mindful of environmental and financial requirements.

Using the information we collected in the first phase, we establish our overall interior design concept, complete with concept boards. Our initial drawings outline space allocation and furnishings, as well as charts and diagrams detailing the proposed requirements, progress and rough costs of the project. We work closely with the client, moving on to Design Development after the client has approved the plans.

Further discussions with the client and approval of the schematic design allows us to refine the design to include detailed plans, complete with elevations, partitions, fixtures and lighting design, as well as finalized sample boards with specific materials, colours and finishes. With the scope of the project fixed, we develop a revised budget estimate.

Once the design-development plans are approved, we prepare the documents required to have the project constructed, including detailed technical drawings, specifications, as well as purchasing and bid documents. With a complete understanding of the project at hand, the budget is now finalized.

Clients can hire Igloo Design to oversee the construction process, including sending out specifications, administering bids, hiring and managing contractors and assisting in filing official plans. Alternatively, if clients choose to manage the construction process on their own, we are available to review progress and provide interior-design insights on an hourly basis, as required.
